BEARING WITNESS
The following are comments of some people who have visited the Salt Monument and attended the Daily Observance.
"The Salt Monument is an experiential realization of the sacredness of human life and death on a global level. For me, it clarifies what is truly significant and profound. The Salt Monument compels me to seek my contribution toward the diminishment of human suffering and to live a simpler and less consumptive lifestyle. The Monument also magnifies my feelings of thankfulness, wonder and awe."
"The Salt Monument has changed my life forever. To experience, and I mean deeply experience, the birth and death of our own friends, family, enemies, children and the vast numbers of those we will never know in one day is overwhelming. And yet, I realize that this is only a fraction of what the experience of the Salt Monument holds."
"When I visit The Salt Monument and participate the Daily Observance, I get a glimpse of the world---the entire world as it really is. I find wonder and awe, beauty and ease, comfort and compassion. I also find pain and suffering, loss and despair, hopelessness and helplessness. During each visit, my heart is overwhelmed because it is too much to bear and, too, my heart grows bigger than ever before."
"Can somebody tell me how to describe something that is so powerful you have to have felt it to know it? It's a feeling that not everybody gets to have, it's a feeling that I'm sure has changed many lives before and will change many more to come. The feeling I am talking about is of walking into the Salt Monument because when someone walks in that door---they change. They get a feeling so wonderful that they treasure it in their heart for the rest of their life, sort of like everyone in our Peace Club does. Because I remember," (at age 11)
"This symbol of the human race and celebrating each birth and mourning each death is so awakening and awe inspiring. At the Salt Monument I become keenly aware of the enormity of the human race and at the same time how small the Earth is in the scope of the universe. This juxtaposition, along with the heartfelt sincerity of the Daily Observance, causes a profound heart opening. My sense of awe, respect, and compassion for each and every person on the earth is awakened. I come into contact with that place in myself that wants to make a difference. I become inspired. Without fail, I leave the Monument with a stronger sense of place and power of voice. Few experiences have so effectively put me into this state of mind. You have given us all a beautiful gift!"
"This is the church service of the future---
"I will remember this day and this sacred experience [of the Daily Observance] as both a precious gift and a significant turning point in my life."
"My heart cried for its felt joy
"I am so grateful to the Salt Monument for opening my mind and helping me to have faith in the things I believe in. Thank you too for bringing the Salt Monument into being and making each moment of every experience of all of the Earth sacred. I always knew it was that simple and paradoxically that complex, but I am eternally grateful that I can honor, explore, and cultivate this understanding so poignantly at the Salt Monument."
"The Salt Monument is a movingly simple and beautiful symbol for all of humanity. The Monument itself evokes a sense of awe when one considers the vast family of the human race. The Daily Observance of the world's births and deaths is powerful. It will alter your perspective of the human condition and lead you to the inevitable conclusion: We are all connected to each other...and we must not forget it."
"I felt infused with grace the night I bore witness to the Salt Monument, and opened my mind and heart to the vastness of what it represents. I felt at once connected to all my sisters and brothers around the globe, and a deep well of grief and compassion was touched, as I reflected on how many will never know the joy and abundance that are mine. I am inspired to share in my own observance each day, linking me to the sacredness of all life" If you have experienced the Salt Monument and would like to add your comment here, please e-mail us your testimony and we will add it on. |
